#11 Jones the Grocer Review

Jones the Grocer
has 3 outlets around Singapore. The outlet I am reviewing in this blog post will be  for the one located at Mandarin Gallery.

The cafe is located alongside many cafes and restaurants in the mall.

Jones 'Club' Sandwich ($13.50), only available during weekends brunch special, is a must-try item. It consists of a huge piece of grilled chicken, avocado, fried egg, bacon, lettuce. Taste wise, absolutely delicious! The portion of the sandwich is relatively big, so I would suggest sharing the item between your partner or friends.

For dessert, I had their Lemon Meringue Tart, which was both good looking and tasty.

The lemon custard was executed perfectly while the crust itself was crispy and spot on. Needless to say, the meringue was light and airy. A stunning pastry, I would say.

After your meal, you can also browse the store for more groceries ranging from wines to condiments.

[Overseas Edition] 5 Cafes to visit in Bangkok

New cafes are always popping out in Bangkok every now and then. Not to mention, the cafes in Bangkok are all neatly and nicely decorated.

If you are planning for a trip to Bangkok anytime soon, or even in the future, check out our pick of 5 cafes to visit in Bangkok!

Simply Basic Coffee Shop
2/2 Phetchaburi, Thanon Phetchaburi, Ratchathewi, Bangkok 10400, Thailand

A cafe located at Phetchaburi 15 Alley in Ratchathewi just a ten minutes walk away from The Platinum Fashion Mall, the cafe offers simple meal items for a tea break session before or after your shopping spree.

Simply Basic Coffee Shop also offers snacks and tidbits neatly placed in baskets by the side of the entrance.

Have done a review about the cafe here: Simply Basic Coffee Shop

Mr. Jones' Orphanage
2nd Floor, Siam Center, Rama 1 Road, Bangkok, 10330 Thailand

You will certainly love this cafe as it is probably one of the most beautiful bear themed cafe, located in Siam Center. The cafe was decorated with teddy bears, lots and lots of teddy bears!

The cafe serves a huge variety of reasonably priced cakes, drinks and desserts. Most importantly, there are tons of seatings available in the cafe as well.

Purr Cat Cafe Club
63 Soi Sukhumvit 53, Sukhumvit Rd., Khlongtunnua, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand

Purr Cat Cafe Club has two different areas. One for customers who are afraid of cats to dine in and the other section which is the main playing area where you can dine and play with the cats at the same time.

The cafe offers a range of desserts and drinks where you could enjoy with the accompany of cute tamed cats!

Vanilla Cafe
53 Ekkamai Soi 12, Sukhumvit Soi 63, 10110, Thailand

This lovely cafe serves fusion Japanese-Italian styled cuisine which serves food with higher standard compared to many other Japanese restaurants.

Apart from food, the cafe also sells their own merchandises, like candles, etc. which are awesomely classy looking! If you are wondering why to consume Japanese and Italian food in Thailand, try the food and you will know the reason for naming this cafe in this list.

Greyhound Cafe
3rd Floor, Siam Center, Rama 1 Road, Bangkok, 10330 Thailand

Certainly one of the more popular cafes in Bangkok! They have a few branches in Bangkok and will be opening another one in Central World in April.

Greyhound Cafe serves fusion Thai-Western cuisine and have ranked up several positive comments online. Even though they might be slightly more pricey compared to other cafes, the cafe has since attracted visitors from overseas, especially so for their famous chicken wings.

#10 Wheeler's Yard Review

Wheeler's Yard, located at 28 Lorong Ampas, is a bicycle garage and cafe. They can be easily recognised by the popular mandatory shot of their blue 'Wheeler's Yard' garage door by many instagrammers.

The cafe is just a ten minutes walk away from Balestier Plaza. In fact, for those of you studying at Curtin Singapore, the cafe is located opposite the campus, across a river.

I've seen many reviews online about Wheeler's Yard, some positive, some negative. Personally, I had a great experience there. The cafe wasn't too crowded and they have ample seats both indoor and outdoor.

I've decided to pick the outdoor seats because the indoor area was a little too cold.

The cafe serves All-day breakfast, Pasta, Mains, Pies and Burgers. Drinks wise, they have a wide variety for you to choose from, ranging from Beers to Coffee.

I ordered the Chicken Yard Burger ($13.90), served with french fries. To be honest, the burger was really well done. The chicken patty was juicy with every bite and together with the caramelised onions, they made a perfect combination. The buns were slightly toasted as well.

As there isn't any service charge, you will have to collect the food yourself when they are ready. Most importantly though, the wait for the food wasn't that long. In fact, they were ready in less than 20 minutes (perhaps it may be because I visited the cafe during dinner time on a weekday).

Nonetheless, I would say that the food and the atmosphere of the cafe itself were definitely worth the value.

I understand that the cafe used to close at 7pm in the past and they have recently extended their opening hours to 8pm. Last order is at 7.30pm though. Personally, I felt that it was still a little too early; perhaps the cafe could open till late night during Friday and Saturday?

Do also check out their Facebook page for any information in regards to their opening hours as they might be closed for some private events during certain days of the week. If not, you could ring them up to ask about the business hours.

[Overseas Edition] BANGKOK - Purr Cat Cafe Club

Purr Cat Cafe Club is a cat cafe located at Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok.

Upon arrival at the cafe, I found out that it was split into two different areas. One for customers who are afraid of cats to dine in and the other section which is the main playing area where you can dine and play with the cats at the same time.

Before you step into the main playing area, all customers were required to clean and disinfect their hands and change to footwear that the cafe has provided. Also, each customer will be presented with a sheet of paper which contains several rules that one have to abide to in the playing area.

Moving to food, Purr Cat Cafe Club serves coffee and desserts. Their food are affordably priced between 60 baht - 150 baht (roughly between SGD$2.30 - $6).

I ordered the Banoffee Pie (partially because this particular dessert was beautifully drawn on their menu).

A Banoffee Pie is an English dessert pie made from bananas, cream and toffee from boiled condensed milk, either on a pastry base or one made from crumbled biscuits and butter. The pie which Purr Cat Cafe served had used Oreo cookies crumble as the pastry base. Taste wise, it was great; in fact, one of the best banana dessert which I've tasted thus far.

Service provided was top-notched as well. The waitresses would not actually mind how many food items you planned to order and were really polite in attending to customers' needs.

The cafe however, is located quite a distance away from the city area. As such, I would recommend travelling to this lovely cat cafe via the taxi.

That been said, some taxi drivers are not really clear of the place as well! Hence, I would advise you to seek help from the people around (especially those who are working at shops or restaurants around the area). I am sure they will be glad to help you with your enquiry as most of them would have heard of this cat cafe and at the same time providing you with directions on how to reach the place.

[Overseas Edition] BANGKOK - Simply Basic Coffee Shop

Simply Basic Coffee Shop is a cafe located at Phetchaburi 15 Alley in Ratchathewi, Bangkok.

The cafe actually stands out from other shops as their exterior is beautifully decorated.

I stumbled upon the cafe while walking back to my hotel from Pantip Plaza. In fact, this cafe is just a ten minutes walk away from The Platinum Fashion Mall. When I entered the cafe, there were rows of snacks and tidbits being stacked up neatly in baskets by the side of the entrance. You could either consume the snacks in the cafe, or takeaway. Some of the snacks could be easily found in Thailand supermarkets and were a little too pricey.

Their menu, however, was simple. It consists of just some handmade sandwiches and drinks ranging from soft drinks, coffee to tea.

I ordered the Iced Matcha Latte (Forgotten the price of it, but definitely cost less than $5sgd) and Ham sandwiches.

The Iced Matcha Latte was good. But the Ham Sandwiches was the one worth mentioning.

The sandwiches were served in traditional bakery soft white bread without the edges and were prepared on the spot and even though it was just a simple sandwich with butter, mayonnaise, ham and cheese, the sense that it was handmade with love made the food tasted even better.

Along the street where the cafe is currently located, there are a handful of popular traditional Thai massage shops; so if you happened to be at that area looking for a place to relax and recharge yourself after the massage session, do look out for this cafe!
