#4 Necessary Provisions Review

Amongst the generally populated residential estate at Bukit Timah lies a lovely cafe, Necessary Provisions.

We arrived at the cafe at around 7pm on a Friday night and it was somewhat crowded, so we had to share the table with a couple (not to worry though, the table is huge enough. You could even read some magazines and eat at the same time).

We looked through the menu and ordered Buta Don ($8) and Bucatini Grilled Prawn Cherry Tomatoes and Basil Pasta ($14).

Because the food needs time to prepare, the waitress actually served us a handful of handmade scones during the wait. Not forgetting to mention, the scones were actually still warm, as though they were freshly baked from the oven!

While browsing through their huge collection of magazines, the food came!

Buta Don, which actually refers to Pork Bowl in English, is a Japanese dish which consists of rice with simmered pork and peas. Hard to believe but this dish was executed nicely, it somehow tasted like a home-cooked meal which those families in Japan would prepare. Even though the bowl might looked a little too small, the portion was just perfect to fill one's stomach.

Whereas for the Bucatini Grilled Prawn Cherry Tomatoes and Basil Pasta, the prawns were grilled to perfection and so were the pasta. The sauce was flavourful and overall the dish was nicely done.

With such great service and attitude, I would definitely drop by the cafe again perhaps for their cakes and coffee!
